Why do cat's like boxes and other enclosed spaces?

Cat’s like boxes. It’s just a fact they like to squeeze into small spaces. It makes them feel much safer, secure and not so exposed.

When young, cats snuggle with their mom and litter mates and enjoy the warm and close contact. There have been studies done where cat’s in closed spaces have been shown to release endorphins, which as we know are pleasure, stress-reducing hormones.

At Cat’s Meow Resort, we have plenty of vertical spaces for kitty to climb. After all, cats love security and getting a bird’s eye view of the world (both inside and out). However, cats also love boxes and nooks where they can nestle in. In a study by Dutch researchers, shelter cats were given boxes as retreats. They found the cats who had boxes adapted more quickly to their new environment than those without. The boxes allowed them to hunker down and feel safe, secure and unexposed.

Has your cat ever tried to squeeze himself into a shoe box or paper shopping bag?
